The acoustic guitar is one of the most popular instruments in the world. Perhaps that is why the choice of a suitable model is a rather complicated process. After all, guitars differ in the wood used in the production, the shape of the body, the width of the neck at the nut, as well as its length. In this article, we will look at the key features of various models and help you understand the variety of tools on the market.

However, the first thing you need to decide is what kind of tamil songs download you want and what kind of music you are going to play. The choice of the first tool will depend on this.

Acoustics or Classics?

Many people don’t understand what is the difference between classical and acoustic guitars. The confusion lies in the fact that both of these instruments are acoustic and do not need to be connected to sound reinforcement equipment to play them. However, the phrase ” acoustic guitar ” is usually understood as an instrument that became widespread in America in the 20s of the last century. Such a guitar is primarily intended for performing pop music, in contrast to classical music, which is used in academic art. These tools have several main differences:

  • Case size
  • Neck size and width
  • Strings
  • Sound
  • The body of the classical guitar is smaller than the basic forms of the acoustic. This affects the volume of the instrument. The neck of the classic is shorter, it connects to the body at the 12th fret, while in most acousticians the connection occurs at the 14th fret. In addition, in a classical guitar it is much wider (52 mm on average), which complicates the use of some playing techniques, such as the barre. However, this is offset by the strings. Unlike acoustic guitars, which tend to have steel strings, the classics use nylon. It is somewhat softer, which means that such strings are somewhat easier to clamp. All these differences affect the sound of the instruments. The classical guitar has a soft velvet tone, while the acoustic one sounds bright and sonorous, the level of high frequencies in its tone is much higher.
  • If you are looking for an instrument for learning in a music school, then you need a classical guitar . In other cases, the choice of instrument depends solely on your musical preferences. There an opinion that nylon strings are easier to learn, but this is not entirely practical because getting used to steel strings, you can then easily play any instrument.
  • In this article, we will not consider classical guitars, we will focus on acoustics with metal strings.

·         Hull shape

  • This is perhaps one of the most important parameters to consider when choosing a tool. The character of the guitar sound, its volume and timbre color depend on the shape of the body. But first, it’s worth noting that regardless of the shape of the body and wood, all guitars have the same structure:

Dreadnought

It is one of the most popular forms of acoustic guitars, developed in the 1920s. Its characteristic feature is its large, heavy body, which gives the instrument a loud and bright sound. Dreadnought guitars are great for country and blues music. And the rich tone with powerful low frequencies allows the guitar to used as the only accompaniment instrument.

Most often, dreadnoughts are played with a pick. Typically, there is a pickguard on the body to protect the top deck from scratches. However, it is also convenient to play with your fingers – the sound remains clear and bright.

Jumbo

The largest building of all. It distinguished from the dreadnought by its rounded shape and even larger size. The jumbo- shaped instrument has the loudest and most powerful sound. Due to the rather thin “waist” the tone of the guitar very balanced with rich low frequencies and a well-read top.

Despite the advantages in sound, the huge jumbo body is not always convenient, especially for children and people of small build.

Concert and Grand Concert

This form is significantly smaller than dreadnoughts and jumbo. Due to its sound, the guitar in concert body is excellent for playing in compositions, as well as for studio work. The low-frequency component does not overwhelm the timbre, the rich middle comes to the fore, while the top is perfectly readable. In general, the sound of such a guitar is softer and more muted.

The scale in instruments in the form of a grand concert is somewhat shorter. And the neck-body connection in some models occurs at the 12th fret. This slightly reduces the degree of string tension, which favorably affects the technical performance. It is equally convenient to play such a guitar both with your fingers and with a pick.

Some more tips

To summarize, I would like to say that the best way to choose a guitar is to pick it up and play it. After all, even two identical instruments of the same company can differ in their sound. This advice is also suitable for those who are just planning to learn how to play. It is essential that the instrument is comfortable to hold. And here there are no universal options – the structure of a person is too individual. The neck should not appear too narrow or unreasonably wide. The latter is especially important when choosing a guitar for children.

The appearance of the instrument also matters: there should be no obvious chips or scratches on the body and fretboard. Pay attention to the neck – in quality instruments it is straight, without any curvature. And, of course, the instrument must be built at all frets. Otherwise, what’s the use of it?
