From a yakuza-turned-househusband show to the live-action adaptation of one of the biggest shounen manga ever, here are some of the best live-action anime shows to watch on Netflix this 2024. Grab your popcorn, Pocky, and Netflix gift card codes—we’ve got some shows to binge!

One Piece Netflix

Many people doubted them but, by Jove, did the madmen at Netflix pull it off! Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation is considered a success by a lot of fans and is currently one of the top examples of a live-action anime adaptation done right.

With a showrunner who’s already a big fan of One Piece, and the production getting Eiichiro Oda’s support and guidance, this adaptation managed to deliver the heart and soul of Oda’s story. Mind you, it’s not an exact copy of the anime and manga, since the show takes some liberties with the plotline. But you bet it captured the essence of what One Piece is: camaraderie and reaching for your dreams.

Alice in Borderland Netflix

Another excellent live-action anime that probably flew under your radar is Alice in Borderland. It was released before Squid Game took the whole world by storm, but their similarities had Alice in Borderland in the shadow of Squid Game for a bit.

Aside from a slight similarity in their general premise, the two are nothing alike! The characters in Alice in Borderland mysteriously find themselves in a changed world, where the Tokyo that they know becomes deserted and dilapidated. On top of that, they have to play dangerous games to survive. It’s a tough situation knowing your friend might turn into your foe any second.

Yu Yu Hakusho Netflix

New shounen fans are all about Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen (Gojo fangirls, this is a judgment-free zone). But if you know your shounen history, you’d know that Yu Yu Hakusho was a shounen icon during its time. It’s by the mangaka that made Hunter x Hunter, Yoshihiro Togashi.

To the delight of many oldie shounen fans, it finally got a live-action adaptation by Netflix in December 2023. The story is a bit rushed due to only having five episodes, but the action choreography is stellar and the highlight of the show!

The Ingenuity of the Househusband

All of the best live-action anime adaptations have been action-forward so far. Let’s end this list on a chill note and take a peek at the life of a yakuza-turned-househusband!

As a retired yakuza, Tsuda now spends his days cooking and cleaning in hilarious ways. Because even though his yakuza days are over, he can’t stop his old habits. Even a simple chore, like sharpening a knife, becomes a rigorous yakuza-like process!

The Ingenuity of the Househusband is not an exact adaptation of the Way of the Househusband anime, but it delightfully takes you on the same hijinks and heartfelt scenes of the original.
