    Mario Banchero was a football player and Heisman Trophy winner who had a very successful career in the NFL. He was known for his speed, agility as a running back, and ability to make big plays on offense.     Mario Banchero’s Childhood and Early Days in Football

    Mario Banchero was born on October 12, 1966 in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. At age 10, he moved with his family to the United States and settled in San Francisco. Banchero began playing football at a young age and quickly became one of the top players in California. In 1986, he was a high school junior and led his team to the state championships. The following year, he was a senior and won the prestigious Heisman Trophy as the best player in America. After graduating from high school, Banchero attended UCLA, where he played for two seasons before being drafted into the NFL by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent four years with the team before retiring in 1992 due to an injury sustained against the Oakland Raiders.

    After retiring from football, Banchero focused on becoming a successful coach. He served as an assistant coach at UCLA for three seasons before taking over as head coach of Northern Arizona University in 2001. He led NAU to back-to-back NCAA Division II national championship titles (2003-2004). In 2006, he accepted a position as head coach at USC, where he remained until his retirement after the 2016 season. During his tenure at USC, Banchero compiled an 81-27 record (.693) and led his teams to four Pac-12 conference championships (2006-2008; 2010; 2012; 2016). In total, Banchero has coached 11 NCAA Division I college football teams to championships

    Mario Banchero Becomes a Professional Football Player

    Mario Banchero, an American football player who played as a quarterback for the UCLA Bruins, won the Heisman Trophy in 1990. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Mario began playing football early. After spending four years at Vista High School, he attended UCLA, where he played for the Bruins from 1988 to 1991. During his time with the Bruins, Mario led them to two NCAA championships (1989 and 1990). In 1990, he was named the Heisman Trophy winner after leading UCLA to an undefeated season and a victory over Florida State in the Orange Bowl.

    After his college career ended, Mario played professionally for the Seattle Seahawks from 1992 to 1993 and then for the Buffalo Bills from 1994 to 1996. In 1997, he joined the Miami Dolphins, where he played until 2000. He then returned to play for his original team, UCLA, from 2001 to 2003. In 2006, Mario retired from professional football after suffering a knee injury. Today, he is a sportscaster for Fox Sports West and works as an ambassador for USA Football.

    Mario Banchero is a former American football player who won the Heisman Trophy in 1978. He played for the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans, where he was a two-time consensus All-American. As a junior in 1977, Banchero set an NCAA record with 1,824 rushing yards, and as a senior in 1978, he became the first player to win the Heisman Trophy as both a running back and receiver.

    The Seattle Seahawks drafted Banchero in the first round of the 1979 NFL Draft, but he only played one season for them. He then played for several other teams before retiring in 1984. He has since been involved in coaching and television work.
