How to Protect Yourself from Terrorism

As the world reels from the London subway attack that left at least 22 people dead and dozens more injured, there are a few things that everyone can do to protect themselves from terrorism.

The first step is to stay aware of your surroundings and take note of any abnormalities. If you see something out of the ordinary, report it to authorities. This includes anything from suspicious behavior to loud noises.

If you find yourself in a situation where you feel like you’re in danger, don’t hesitate to use your phone’s emergency dialing feature. Dial 9-1-1 and let the responding officers know exactly where you are and what’s happening.

Additionally, make sure to keep your personal information safe and confidential. Don’t share your Social Security number or passport number with anyone, especially not strangers online.

Finally, remember that terrorism is an emotional as well as physical threat. If something makes you feel scared or uncomfortable, trust your instincts and avoid it.

How to Respond to an Attack Like This

In what is being called a terrorist attack on the London subway, an unknown assailant entered a subway train near the Parsons Green station and began stabbing people. According to witnesses, the attacker was wearing what looked like a bomb belt and was screaming “Allahu akbar.” As of now, eight people have been confirmed dead and dozens more injured.

Responding to any terrorist attack is always difficult, but there are some basic steps that everyone should take in order to be safe. The first thing you should do is stay calm. This may seem like a difficult task in the face of such violence, but it’s important not to react emotionally. If you’re able to remain calm and collected, it will help protect you from becoming involved in the violence or being targeted by the attacker.

If you’re caught in the middle of an active attack, try to get out of the way as quickly as possible. Stay away from objects that could be used as weapons or obstacles that the attacker may use to prevent you from leaving. If you can’t leave the scene, try to find somewhere secure to hide until it’s safe to exit.

If you’re experiencing a terrorist attack while traveling, try to avoid making eye contact with anyone and keep your belongings close at hand in case you need to make a quick escape. So If something feels suspicious or if someone tries to force themselves on you or take your belongings, resist any attempts made by them and call for help using 911 or your travel insurance
