The History
Tom Cesario Monoe County is a small county in the northwestern corner of Georgia that was named after its founder, Thomas Cesario. Tom Cesario was born in Italy in 1810 and came to America in 1834. In 1802, following U.S. independence from Great Britain, Nicholas Longworth bought 3,000 acres of land near present-day Macon which he named after his father-in-law General James Monaghan (of Tyrone fame). In 1805, he donated 640 acres of this land to Macon College (now Mercer University). This tract later became known as Monaghan’s Grant and is now part of downtown Macon
