There are not many people that feel the need to have regular appointments to see an Optometrist purely because they do not understand the significance or importance of looking after their eyes. There are others though that chose to have Comprehensive Eye Exams to ensure that their eyes are working the best they can and that they are healthy. An Optometrist would usually advise that a person was to have regular eye exams due to the fact that many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms, so they may not actually be aware that a problem exists.

Regular eye exams means that a patient is able to receive early diagnosis on any problem that may be found and also treatment of eye or vision problems which could help prevent vison loss. An Optometrist will make a professional decision as to what treatment each patient will need depending on the signs or symptoms that have been diagnosed. A comprehensive eye exam can take an hour or more, depending on the doctor and the number and complexity of tests required to fully evaluate your vision and the health of your eyes.

Having a comprehensive eye exam means that there will be more than one test, an eye examination usually consists of a series of tests which help to assess vision and ability to focus on and discern objects. It also includes other tests and examinations pertaining to the eyes. Eye examinations are primarily performed by an optometrist, ophthalmologist, orthoptist, or an optician.

At the end of a comprehensive eye exam the Optometrist will assess and evaluate the results of the testing to determine a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan. They will discuss with the patient the nature of any visual or eye health problems found and explain available treatment options. In some cases, referral for consultation with, or treatment by, another doctor of optometry or other health care provider may be indicated.  If the patient should have questions about any diagnosed eye or vision conditions, or treatment recommendations, they should not hesitate to ask the Optometrist for additional information or explanation.

Having regular eye exams and visits to see an optometrist could limit the severity of any eye problems and more often than not they find that there are no problems at all. This is the desired outcome for any Optometrist, they desire that all clients enjoy full health and top vision.

The means for regular testing and the importance of it is to find things as early as possible. As with any problem at all, health related or not, the earlier it is diagnosed the easier the treatment process so ensuring regular visits to the eye doctor are a must do. There is obviously a mild to severe range of diagnosis too, so there I no need to be overly concerned thinking every exam will bring up severe diagnosis, sometimes it can be as simple as needing glasses to support vision. The important thing is that exams are frequent and regular.
