Plywood Types

They are continuously investing in technology to reduce wood usage. The types of plywoods comes with various sizes and shapes and the grade material available in market are

  • 3-PLY
  • 5-PLY

Multilayer Plywoods

  • 7-PLY
  • 9-PLY
  • 13-PLY

3-PLY Plywood:

This plywood is 4mm thick and mostly used for Indoor and Outdoor Interior work. Manufacturers combine veneer and wood grain then combust them with deep pressure. Doesn’t fit for bigger projects, because they are very sleek and chances of split or break is possible.

Interior Designers can use 3-PLY Plywood for some minimal usage.

5-PLY Plywoods:

Usually 5-Ply Plywoods come with the thickness of 10mm to 40mm. The manufacturing process is the same as 3-Plywoods. Veneer and wood grain are the components used. When you compare it with the 3-PLY Plywood, 5-Ply is stronger and will be durable.

We can use 5-PLY for Interior and Exterior Project. Modular kitchen installed with 5 ply will last for years.

Multilayers Plywoods:

If you want a plywood which gives you softwood strength, then must choose 7,9 or 13 inch plywoods. These plywoods are extremely tough and have high durability. Some Plywood manufacturers even give 15 to 25 years warranty for these multilayer plywoods.

Interior Designing Projects are not completed with plywoods, there are other types too.

  • Softwood.
  • Hard Plywoods.
  • Marine Plywoods and so on…

Softwoods:

Softwoods are not like plywoods, they are real wood from lightweight trees like Pine, Redwood and cedar. Usually softwoods are used to make furniture, tables and mostly used for modular kitchens.

Other uses of softwoods are roof sheathing and subflooring. Pet lovers used to build pet houses and normal garages also made with softwoods.

Hard Plywoods:

Hardwoods are similar to multilayer plywoods, but the difference is they are manufactured with different woods. Here are a few hardwood plywood trees.

  • Birch
  • Poplar
  • Oak
  • Maple
  • Walnut

EPS interior in chennai delivers major projects in Hardwood Plywoods for durability and strength.

Hardwoods are extremely strong and they are used in Furniture, Musical Instruments, Fitness Equipment and least quality hard wood is used packing box.

Hardwoods can act as a strong frame, where it is very tough and durable as well.

Lumber Core:

As we all know the plywood comes with various types, lumber cores are slightly different from other plywoods. Lumber cores have 3 plies and have two thin outer layers and a very thick middle layer for durability.

We can use lumber core for heavy projects, because the Inner thick layer can hold nail, screws for grip. The assembled product will be in the right shapes for years.

To find the ‘A’ Lumber, you must check inside the layers. If you find any void just try to avoid that lumber core plywood.

Marine Plywood:

Technology is completely evolving in the plywood industry. Manufacturers are working hard and introducing new technology for their customers. Marine plywoods fall under technology innovation. This plywood is completely waterproof, after the compression process manufacturer uses Patented water resistant exterior glue.

This enables the plywoods to withstand the pressure of water for years. The following are types of marine plywoods, which are available in the market

  • MGI Marine Plywoods
  • Greenply Marine Plywoods
  • Century Marine Plywoods
  • Kalinga Marine Plywoods
  • Brown Marine Grade Plywoods

These plywoods are branded and ‘A’ Graded and durability is more than 20 years.

Exterior Plywoods:

This plywood is similar to marine plywoods, it is treated with water resistant glue. Veneer is mixed with this glue, which helps the resistant to hold the water for years.

Exterior plywoods are not strong water resistant like marine plywoods, but they can hold rain, wind and cold. It Fights with environmental elements with strong resistance.

Overlaid Plywoods:

These plywoods are considered as medium and high density plywoods. It’s not weak like a softwood, 3 layer plywoods at the same time overlaid are not strong like hardwood or 7 layer plywoods.

HDO or MDO plywoods are manufactured like other plywoods but the materials are stronger than 3 layer and weaker than 7 layer plywoods.

We can use Overlaid plywoods for exterior and interior purposes.

Structural Plywoods:

These plywoods are the least quality plywoods, manufactured with C or D Grade Raw material. If you are looking for inexpensive plywoods then choose structural plywoods. They don’t perform heavy duty work, but we can use it for normal indoor designing or crafting.

Plywoods comes with various grades

– ‘A’ Grade
– ‘B’ Grade
– ‘C’ Grade
– ‘D’ Grade
Out of these grades A and B plywoods have high resistance and C and D have low Resistance.

Conclusion:

When the innovation of plywoods happened in the 1950’s people rejected the concept, and there only few people made a choice to buy the product. They majorly preferred hardwood concepts. After the evolution of Interior Designing and the reduction in cost, people started to buy plywoods.

In upcoming years, we will see a lot of innovation in the plywood industry. Will wait for the innovation. For More blogs Visit Buzztum and update your knowledge.
