What to check while Buying Economy Tyres Shipley

  1. Types of Tyre

There are multiple types of tyres out here in the market offering unique features. Some of them include-

  • 4×4 Tyres Ideal for SUVs and CUVs, these tyres offer enhanced performance for on and off-roading driving. Conquer the uneven roads with the 4×4 tyres which are designed for superior driving performance. Also, get better load-carrying capacity than regular units as well as enhanced safety.
  • Run Flat Tyres (RFT): RFT offers additional safety by giving the ability to drive about 50 miles with a punctured tyre.
  • Summer Tyres Perfect for warm temperatures above 7 degrees, they offer great control while cornering or breaking in wet as well as dry weather conditions.
  • Winter Tyres- Winter tyres decrease the risk of hydroplaning significantly and allow a safe drive on snowy and icy roads. The aggressive tread pattern of these tyres enables your car tyres to achieve maximum traction on cold surfaces.
  • All-Season Tyres- Get year-round performance with the perfect mix between summer and winter tyres.
  • Performance Tyres- Perfect for high-speed sports cars to support their high performance, performance tyres not only offer improved handling capabilities but also improved safety significantly.
  1. Tyre Labelling

Standardised tests are conducted on all tyres to reveal the performance capabilities of a unit in multiple parameters. The inspections to check the accuracy and built quality of the tyre offer a clear classification of the rolling resistance, braking on wet surfaces as well as reduced external noise capabilities.

Rolling resistance- Mentioned on the label, rolling resistance indicates the energy efficiency of the tyre. Due to the design, structure and tread compound, different tyres have different rolling resistance. Moreover, the pressure inside the tyre also affects the rolling resistance. Premium-quality tyres decrease the rolling resistance without compromising other features such as gripping and noise. An accurate inflated tyre with a low rolling resistance tyre can assist majorly in saving on fuel expenses. There are different classes/categories of rolling resistance ranging between “A” and “E”, in which the former is most efficient and the latter is the least efficient.

Wet Grip– Wet Grip is an extremely useful feature in terms of safety. Wet Grip label refers to the tyre’s capability to effectively brake on wet roads. This feature ensures that the car does not skid due to aquaplaning. Also, similar to rolling resistance, Label A indicated the shortest braking distance, while E refers to the longest braking distance.

External Noise– Measured in decibels, external noise refers to the amount of sound generated by tyres when a car passes by. Moreover, the label to indicate external noise in a tyre is A and B, where “A” is less noisy outside the car and “B” indicates more noise.

  1. Tyre Markings

Tyre markings are denoted by alphanumeric code on the sidewalls. They indicate different aspects of the tyre and help in making the right selection.

In a marking of 180 65 R15 tyres

  • 180 refers to the tyre width, calculated from sidewall to sidewall in millimetres.
  • 65 is the aspect ratio that refers to the height of the tyre in relation to the width. 65 means that the tyre height is 65% of its width.
  • R” refers to Radial construction. There are other types of construction labels including D for diagonal and B for bias belt.
  • Finally, 15 indicates the diameter of the wheel the tyre is manufactured for.
