Travel Tips For Attending a Sporting Event

Must Read

Sports and travel really should go together more often for people as it can provide the perfect activity for a trip. Planning an entire vacation around attending a sporting event is a great idea, especially if it’s a major event.

Don’t just sit around and look at the NFL odds for the upcoming 2023 season, but instead, get out there and go to a big game. There are so many great options throughout the United States, or other countries host big events as well.

It can be a hassle to get to a sporting event, but not if you follow some tips from people that do it all of the time. If you are going to travel to a major sporting event, then here are some tips to remember:

Secure Your Tickets

The most important step in planning a vacation around a sporting event is securing the tickets for the game that you are wanting to attend. Depending on the event, it could be next to impossible to find the tickets that you are looking for.

The best place to get tickets is through the official team site, but you can sometimes find some good deals through a secondary marketplace. Be prepared that these tickets could be extremely expensive, and that will impact how much leftover money you will have.

If you want to use a perfect strategy to secure tickets then you want to get to a place where a good seat meets the best price. Overpaying for a game can leave you without extra money to spend, and having a bad seat can ruin your experience at the game.

Know the Parking Situation

Finding a place to park at a sporting event can sometimes be more difficult than beating the Vegas NFL odds. Most of the new stadiums really focus on parking when the plans are made, but that’s not the case for some of the older venues.

If you are able to secure a parking spot in advance of your trip then it’s highly advised to get that done. You don’t want to be wasting time before the game trying to find a spot to park, and getting a spot locked in is a smart thing to do.

Some stadiums have very limited parking available, and it’s best to use public transportation or an Uber service to get to the game. This is something that you need to have figured out before the day of the game.

If you are going to be parking at the stadium or somewhere in the vicinity then it’s imperative to remember where you parked so you don’t end up getting lost.

Eat Before the Game

Stadiums and arenas now have some terrific dining options, but they are also going to be extremely expensive. Most places will actually have some restaurants inside, but that’s going to keep you from watching the actual game.

The best course of action is to eat before you arrive at the stadium, as that will send you plenty of money. You will also find much healthier options than you would from a concession stand, and you won’t have to waste time standing in line and missing the game.

It’s perfectly fine to grab a hot dog or popcorn to enjoy while watching the game, but you shouldn’t plan to eat your entire meal during the contest. For as good as the concession stands have become, you can always find better food options at a restaurant.

Know the Stadium Policies

Looking at the NFL lines gives you a good idea of what to expect during games, and knowing the stadium policies gives you an idea of what to expect during your visit. Most stadiums or arenas have specific rules about what you can or cannot take into the stadium.

You are going to need to know other stadium policies as well, such as what potential upgrade options are available. These stadium policies are very easy to find for most teams, and it can save you some hassle if you look into these.

There used to be a big push with fans to bring signs into the game, but that’s not usually allowed at most stadiums these days. The stadium security takes their jobs very serious, and you can find yourself not being allowed into the stadium if you break one of the policies.

Get There Early

There are too many people that show up just minutes before the start of a game, and then leave before the game has even ended. That’s the wrong way to go about things as you want to get there early to enjoy your experience.

Arriving early is going to give you a chance to explore the stadium or arena where the game is played, and you might be able to interact with some of the athletes. Planning to get there early is also important in case some issues arise that cause you to be delayed.

If you are going to a baseball game then you will get to enjoy batting practice and a chance to catch some foul balls. Getting to an NBA game early can provide a ton of excitement as the top players tend to put on a show well before the actual warmup starts.

Always Have Cash

You are going to find that most sporting events are now cashless, which means that you will be using your debit or credit card for every purchase. Even if that is the case, you are still going to want to travel with some cash on you.

There are so many other things that you might want to purchase on the day of the game, and having cash can be a nice insurance policy. You aren’t going to need to take a ton of cash, but have enough to cover a meal or something if needed.

You are probably going to want to go out and do something before or after the game as well, and that would be a perfect time to use your cash that you brought.
