The first mobile sportsbooks in Maryland might be operated by Caesars, Barstool, FanDuel, and BetMGM

Must Read

The launch of online sports betting in the state of Maryland has received a lot of attention in the betting world this year. Although retail sportsbooks in the state allow wagering, it has been challenging to completely implement mobile sports betting.

There is, however, a slim chance that Maryland sports fans could soon be able to gamble directly from their cell phones and tablets. If so, it appears that the first online sports betting firms accessible in the region will be four of the most recognisable names in sports betting.

Let’s examine the four mobile betting applications that might be released in the Old-Line State.

Four prestigious sportsbooks may debut in Maryland soon

There is optimism that Maryland sports fans may soon be allowed to place bets entirely online, even if they can currently only do so in person. In a webinar hosted by VIXIO Gambling Compliance, John Martin of the Maryland Lotto reportedly disclosed that four significant sportsbooks might open in the state before the end of the year.

The four mobile sportsbooks are the BetMGM Sportsbook from MGM Resorts International, the Caesars Sportsbook from Caesars Entertainment, the Barstool Sportsbook from Penn National Gaming, and the FanDuel Sportsbook from Flutter Entertainment.

Retail betting locations are already available at all four sports book operators

All four of the prospective first online sportsbooks are currently present in the Maryland gambling industry, operating physical sportsbooks at various casinos throughout the state. Caesars Sportsbook is currently physically located at the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore. The BetMGM retail sportsbook is situated at MGM National Harbor in Forest Heights, and you can also read this BetMGM online casino review that will give you all the details about this top casino. In the meanwhile, there is a retail FanDuel Sportsbook at the Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover.

And lastly, Perryville’s Hollywood Casino features a physical Barstool Sportsbook. It will be interesting to see if having these retail sportsbooks already in place will facilitate the release of betting applications in the state more quickly. If so, that’s fantastic news for BetRivers and PointsBet Sportsbooks, both of which provide in-person betting at various casino locations around Maryland.

When will sports betting be available online in Maryland?

There is still a potential that Maryland will have access to internet sportsbooks before 2023. Governor Larry Hogan has been trying to hasten the adoption of mobile sports betting in the state since June. Logan hoped to release the game on September 8th to coincide with the 2022 NFL season, but that day has passed. It was revealed in late September that some sports betting apps would go live in the final two months of the year due to the Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission’s rolling basis strategy for betting licenses.

It would be fascinating to observe if the aforementioned sports betting platforms debut before the end of the year given that the Commission plans to examine various licenses on October 21. If they do, supporters of groups like the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Commanders will be thrilled to have an easy way to wager on their home teams.
