A painting by Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli sold for a record $ 92.2 million today at an auction hosted by Sotheby’s.

The painting, which depicts a young man holding a picture, was claimed by two collectors. It was awarded to the one who offered $ 80 million, to which will be added the taxes and the supply of the auction house.

This is the highest price given for a painting since May 2019, when Claude Monet’s “Haystacks” were sold for 110 million dollars. The highest price for a painting by Botticelli was the $ 10.4 million given in 2013 for the work “The Virgin with the Divine Infant and St. John the Baptist”.

It is not known which person is depicted in the painting, but experts believe that he may be a member of the powerful Florentine family of Medici. It is not dated but is estimated to have been made in the early 1480s. Solow passed away in mid-November. His family initially thought of setting up a museum in New York to house his collection, but in the end, the attempt was unsuccessful.
