Pomegranate: The fruit of health and longevity

An emblem of deities, a symbol of longevity and fertility, the Persians also call it “the fruit of Paradise”. Pomegranate has always been associated with life, wealth, fertility, good luck.

With unquestionable taste and nutritional value, pomegranate contains a significant amount of vitamins, polyphenols, as well as a sufficient amount of minerals.

“Consumption of pomegranate can reduce the risk of heart disease, but also help prevent the formation of atherosclerotic plaque in the arteries, reducing the oxidation of LDL (bad cholesterol).” “The reduction of inflammation makes it effective against osteoarthritis, in favor of strengthening the immune function as well as a useful tool for the prevention of prostate cancer and other forms of cancer. In addition, it helps fight the effects of aging and promote red blood cell production.

1. Cardiovascular

There are studies that show that pomegranate high content of antioxidants reduces inflammation and thickening of the walls of arteries. It appears to protect against the oxidation of LDL cholesterol and slows the development of atherosclerotic plaque formation. It is also believed to enhance the action of statins, thus helping to lower cholesterol. There is evidence that daily consumption of pomegranate juice may help lower systolic blood pressure but not diastolic blood pressure.

2. For prostate cancer

The action of pomegranate juice against prostate cancer has been studied. One study found that people who had surgery or radiation therapy for prostate cancer and drank pomegranate juice needed more time to double their PSA (prostate-specific antigen). Early studies raise hopes that pomegranate may have potential benefits for prostate cancer but more research is needed to find out. Pomegranate has anti-cancer effects in experimental models of lung, prostate and skin and colon cancers.

3. Helps reduce fat

Pomegranate and its extracts have recently been shown to have a positive effect on fat reduction. Many studies have investigated the effects of pomegranate on obesity, and various mechanisms have been proposed for how these different extracts help reduce fat.

4. Antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory action   

Health benefits include antiviral and antibacterial properties. It also has anti-inflammatory action which according to studies is beneficial for people with arthritis.
