Ten essential drawing tips

1.            Any drawing deserves a sketch

Have you ever visited a painter’s house? If so, you must have noticed the many sketches of one line drawing that precede and prepare for his masterpieces: a majestic scene cannot be improvised, it is important to have a preliminary idea of the arrangement of the scene, even of the scene. harmony of colors, the direction of light. All these preparatory elements will be part of the sketch and avoid inconsistencies in the final cool drawing.

2.            The foreground is not always what you think it is

The foreground in one line drawing tutorial, in the chronological order of the cool drawing, is the plane that represents the greatest importance for you in the organization of your cool drawing. This is the part that seems the most important to you and that you want to highlight; it is very smart to start with this plan because it will then help you to respect the proportions.

3.            Think lines rather than objects

What blocks the novice designer is often worrying about the object: if it is complex, made up of multiple details, you risk getting lost in the proportions and having an outline too large for what you are looking for. want to put there, or too small. To avoid this pitfall, we advise you to think of lines rather than objects: by squinting your eyes, you can have a more synthetic vision of the shape of the object; try to draw this one using a few straight lines, without pressing.

4.            You choose where you want to start

There is no consensus when at the beginning of the layout: some prefer to work long enough on the important plan, leaving only a vague sketch of what is around to specify it later, others seek to place on the reference sheet to respect the distance of the objects from each other. The second technique is however more careful because it avoids running out of space at the end of the one line drawing tutorial.

5.            A vanishing point is not rocket science!

As we told you in a previous article, many tutorials on Youtube can help you learn basic techniques, including the vanishing point, and it is by applying it as often as possible that you will perfect your technique. There is no need to be discouraged if the first vanishing points that you realize give an environment distorted compared to reality; you will adjust to the next cool drawing.

6.            Copy your elders!

How did the great painters start? Like a painter’s little hand, they fill in a few details, reinforce a color, and little by little we give them more important parts of the canvas. If you are not lucky enough to be the student-apprentice of an artist, this does not prevent you from applying this method: trying to imitate one line drawing tutorial (without tracing them), will give you ease for the more difficult stage where it is a three-dimensional vision that you will have to put on paper.

7.            It’s your brain that draws

Take the time to mentalize your cool drawing before darkening the sheet: you have to visualize the lines, build a precise mental image of what you are going to draw. The most difficult thing about one line drawing tutorial is converting the 3D, volume (what your eye shows you) into 2D (the sheet of paper): if you mentally succeed in this operation, you’re done! One of the important points is the perception of slopes: slopes should alert you because they are sometimes difficult to render on paper. So be careful when you spot an incline in the landscape of your cool drawings.

8.            Quantity does not make quality

The main fault of young designers is the temptation to add more material each time: use your pencil stroke sparingly, the white of the sheet is very important. When a detail is missing, we can always add it; on the other hand, when you have drawn too much, even with an eraser it is difficult to catch up with your sketch!

9.            Keep it simple

As well for the tool as the drawn object, do not aim too quickly for complexity: still, lives are well suited to the first tests, and it is recommended to work with HB pencil rather than with perhaps more elaborate materials. but less flexible, and above all more difficult to master for a novice.

10.          Create your own set of proportions

It is about building up a small arsenal, which will be your yardstick: in your cool drawings, try to be aware of the relative proportions of the objects you draw. As you go, these will become familiar and you will know what place to give to such and such an object, depending on how far away it is from you.

But the most important: if you have a problem with an object, change the model! Don’t get stuck on a landscape, face, or still life for hours, there is so much to draw around!
