According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the typical density is 100 units/cm2. In general, hair transplantation results in a density of 30-40 units/cm2. High viability rates allow for higher packing densities (up to 60 units per cm2).

An alternative approach for reducing the transit time, which might affect graft survival, is direct implantation. Here, follicles are implanted immediately after being extracted. Simple and practical, this procedure has been determined to be a variation of FUE. Using Neograft, a suction-based FUE method, one or two extraction steps can be performed.
