If you’ve ever experienced Vertigo, you are well-aware of what Vertigo signs & symptoms are. Vertigo is characterized as a condition in which patients often feel dizzy, nauseous, out of sorts, & unbalanced. They can also feel swaying to one side, or feel like their surroundings are moving & spinning even when they are perfectly still. Vertigo symptoms can sometimes also be accompanied by motion sickness & vomiting. Vertigo usually isn’t a disorder of its own, rather a symptom of some already underlying condition. Here know How to cure Vertigo permanently?

Vertigo usually isn’t fatal or dangerous, although it can be quite troublesome for the people experiencing it. It can also increase your chances of falling or losing your balance while doing certain high-risk activities like driving, climbing the stairs, or bathing. Hence, even though it poses no actual risk or danger to patients, getting timely, adequate Vertigo treatment is necessary to ensure the patient’s health & safety.

Most Vertigo patients wonder if it’s even possible to get rid of Vertigo symptoms completely. Their trepidations are justified, as doctors haven’t yet been able to come up with proper Vertigo treatment plans & strategies that can cure Vertigo permanently. However, it’s always possible for the exceptions to rule in this scenario, & there are indeed some Vertigo treatment methods that have successfully provided relief for a long period of time to Vertigo patients.

These vertigo treatment methods provide a way for people with Vertigo to live peacefully without the constant danger of falling down or losing their balance. It’s also important to understand that Vertigo treatment depends on the exact Vertigo causes, & works differently for each individual case. In some cases, Vertigo can go away on its own without any proper treatment.  But for those cases where it doesn’t, getting adequate vertigo treatment is necessary to ensure your health & safety. In this blog, we’ll tell you some Vertigo treatment options that help permanently cure Vertigo for some patients. These treatment options include Vertigo exercises, vertigo medicines, Vertigo home remedies, surgery, & certain dizziness treatment methods as well.

Read on to know more about these Vertigo treatment methods that help patients get rid of their Vertigo symptoms & signs once & for all.

  1. Vertigo exercises to improve balance & inner ear problems

Certain Vertigo exercises help Vertigo patients deal with the loss of the natural Vestibular System in an effective way. These exercises are part of a Vertigo treatment procedure called Vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Vestibular Rehabilitation therapy trains the body to make up for the loss in the body’s natural balance by employing other senses to take up the control. These Vertigo exercises are designed according to each individual patient’s needs & specific vertigo causes, so as to help them in the most optimal way possible. Vestibular Rehabilitation therapy involves various head & eye movements, balance training, & certain other exercises, as specified by the patient’s exact diagnosis & vertigo signs. Vestibular Rehabilitation therapy can be either performed in a doctor’s office, or by expert professionals in a proper hospital setting.

  1. Canalith Repositioning Maneuvers

Canalith Repositioning maneuvers also called the ‘Epley Maneuver’, is a type of Vertigo exercise that helps patients who are suffering from Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). BPPV Vertigo is a type of peripheral vertigo caused by the displacement of tiny calcium particles in the ear, also known as canaliths. When these tiny particles move from the middle ear into the semicircular canal of the inner ear, they cause problems with the balance of the body. Canalith repositioning maneuvers like the Epley maneuver, help put the displaced particles back in their original position, & restore the body’s original balance system. Canalith repositioning maneuvers can either be done in the presence of a trained professional or doctor or can be done individually too.

To perform the canalith repositioning maneuver called the Epley maneuver, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Sit on the table with open eyes & your head turned 45 degrees to the right.
  • Quickly lie on your back with your head at the end of the table.
  • Turn your head 90 degrees in the left direction, & keep still in this pose for at least 30 seconds.
  • Next, turn your head another 90 degrees in the left direction while also rotating your body in the same direction. Keep still in this position for at least 30 seconds.
  • Next, sit up on the left side of the table.
  • Repeat this procedure on both sides until you feel adequate relief from your Vertigo symptoms.

It is normal to feel a little bit of dizziness after performing the Epley Maneuver. While it tends to go away after some time, it’s important that you don’t indulge in any activities that may put you in danger of falling or getting faint. It’s also important to sit & sleep in an upright position for at least 24 hours after performing the Epley Maneuver so as to not make the canaliths fall back into their misplaced position.

Canalith repositioning maneuvers have been extremely successful in Vertigo treatment, with a success rate of anywhere between 50 to 90 percent. Canalith repositioning maneuvers can be done as long as the canaliths do not move back into their original position. If the canaliths, after being repositioned, move back into the semicircular canal, the Vertigo exercises can be performed again until the purpose is achieved.

Vertigo medicines & Vertigo home remedies

In addition to Vertigo exercises & canalith repositioning maneuvers, there are Vertigo medicines that can help with vertigo treatment. These medicines can help patients get rid of Vertigo symptoms permanently in some cases.

These Vertigo medicines include the following:

  • Antihistamines including Antivert (meclizine), Dramamine (dimenhydrinate), & Benadryl (diphenhydramine), relieve the symptoms of Vertigo during episodes.
  • Anticholinergics, like the Transderm Scop patch, is known to be effective with dizziness.
  • Anti-anxiety medicines, like Valium (diazepam) and Xanax (alprazolam) can help relieve vertigo symptoms in some people if they are triggered by an anxiety disorder.
  • In case of vertigo caused by a stroke, medicines such as aspirin, Plavix (clopidogrel), Aggrenox (aspirin-dipyridamole), or Coumadin (warfarin) may be helpful in preventing a future stroke.
  • Certain migraine medications can also help treat vertigo symptoms in some people. Various medicines such as antidepressants, beta-blockers, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), benzodiazepines, antiemetics, or calcium channel blockers are among these medications.
  • In case your BPPV is triggered by an ear infection, then your doctor will provide you with medicines to that effect.

Vertigo home remedies consist of including Ginkgo Biloba in your diets, drinking more water, keeping yourself hydrated, & staying away from any stress in your everyday life.
