Fortunately, the manufacturers offer us several types, based on which you can choose exactly as needed.

How to choose skylights?

By size

  • Long – They are suitable for flat and lower roofs. One, a maximum of two, is enough in the room.
  • Short – They are mainly used for steep roofs. They perform the task better if there is more than one at a time.

According to the material

  • Wooden – They have good durability, look cozy, and are decorated with their excellent thermal insulation properties.
  • Polyurethane – Polyurethane models suitable for wetter rooms such as kitchens or bathrooms are also popular.

According to the opening

  • Tilting skylights – Provide sufficient daylight. They are known for their easy handling.
  • Swing roof windows – Do not restrict movement and save space. They are suitable for roofs with a lower slope located at higher heights.
  • Tilting-swinging roof windows – They combine the positives of both types but count on a high price.

According to the method of control

  • Manual – These are classic roof windows with simple manual opening.
  • Electrical – As part of a smart home system. They are controlled remotely.

A few unwritten rules when choosing skylights

  • The size of the windows should reach at least 10% of the total floor plan of the room.
  • More efficient supply of daylight is ensured by smaller windows than one large one.
  • In addition to choosing a window, also think about the location of the handle and the comfort of handling.
  • Skylights can be supported by a light guide or special skylights.
