In this article, we will learn how to convert an array to a string in PHP using the PHP built-in function?

A server-side scripting language for the Internet, PHP supports the array data type, which has very interesting use cases for storing data in a program. It is important for a web developer to know the various operations on the array data type to encode high performance web scripts. PHP provides many built-in methods for performing array operations.

In this article, we will learn how to convert array to string php built-in function. Like front-end JavaScript, PHP also has a join () method that concatenates each element of an array into a nicely formatted delimited string. The delimiter separates the array elements from each other in the output string using any character, the default (comma).

Here is an example that makes good use of this PHP method,

<?php

$favouriteColors = array(“Red”, “Yellow”, “Blue”);

$string = join(‘,’, $ favouriteColors);

echo ‘Favourite Colors are: ‘ . $string;

?>

In this code, we have our favoriteColors array that contains the string elements. We then declare a string variable and in that store the result of the join operation performed on the array, favoriteColors. It will be output in the order of the elements, separated by values.

Favorite colors: red, yellow, blue.

It’s easy to do this with PHP’s built-in function, but we can also write code to create a string from an array.

Code

<?php

$string = ”; //Empty string initally.

foreach ($array as $key => $value) {

$string .= “,$value”; //Add into string value

}

$string = substr($string, 1); //To remove the first , from first element

?>

Works the same as the join function. We iterate over the array using a loop and store in a string variable the string that is appended to the element preceded by the character. Finally, we remove the first, using the substr () method, which will return the string from index 1 to the length of the string, that is, discard the first in the string.
