Everything You’d Like to Know About Tyre Puncture Repair

Must Read

A tyre puncture repair in the middle of the road is one of the nastiest things you can get while driving. Tyres are otherwise said to be the most sturdy parts of the vehicle. They are made after a lot of research and testing. That’s because the roads are pretty harsh for them. There are potholes, patches and kerbs on the streets. If that’s not enough, nails and pieces of glass shards can be scattered on the roads.

Though your tyres do put up a good fight on the roads and ensure that you get a comfortable drive, however, are times when they succumb to the pressure. Yes. They get punctured, and that’s where the trouble starts. These punctures can happen anywhere on the roads with no scope for help whatsoever.

What’s the law behind puncture repair?

Tyre repair is more challenging than it sounds. It requires a lot of skill and precision. The UK government has set some rules for puncture repair, and it ensures that they are followed stringently. It’s called the British Standard way of puncture repair. It’s called the BS AU 159. It says that the procedure should use a patch and a plug while repairing the Goodyear tyres in Loughborough. You need to see that it’s done by some qualified technician and carried out how it is laid out.

Are all punctures repairable?

Well, no. Not all punctures are repairable. A lot depends on the puncture’s location and the tyre’s condition. A puncture can be repaired if –

If the puncture is situated in three-quarters of the central part of the tyre, then it can be repaired.

The minimum tread limit of the tyre should be more than 1.6 mm.

The sidewall of the tyre is intact, and there’s no damage to the structural integrity of the tyre.

The tyre doesn’t seem to be deteriorating.

There’s no other puncture close to this puncture.

Pre-puncture sealants – What are they?

These sealants are inserted into the tyre’s valve as a precautionary measure. They prevent air loss. That means you can drive without any interruption or issue with the tyre. The only problem is you must know when the puncture occurs on time.

Do post-puncture sealants work?

These sealants are used after a puncture has occurred in the tyre. Like the former, this is also infused through the valve route, and then the tyre is inflated again, utilising a gas cylinder. This forms a layer inside the tyre that helps in protecting it. However, if you plan to use a sealant, ensure you use it immediately when the puncture occurs. Driving on a hole can cause irreversible damage to the cheap tyres Loughborough

Sealants are never a permanent solution. They should only be used when it’s incredibly urgent. Otherwise, get your tyre repaired the way it should be.

Can run-flat tyres be repaired?

Run-flat tyres allow you to run for some more miles even after getting a puncture. However, the manufacturer clearly states the miles and speed at which they should run in case of a hole. Ideally, it’s impossible to determine the rate and the circumstances in which the mechanic runs the tyre on the road.

Our conclusion

Safety should be the topmost priority when it comes to repairing punctures. Get a hole repaired only if it’s possible. Ensure it’s always repaired the way it is mentioned in the law.
