6 Common Conditions That an ENT Care Doctor Focuses On

Must Read

Ears, nose, and throat (ENT) conditions & diseases vary in symptoms and severity. They can be mild while others can cause long-term problems. Some are temporary or permanent, which reduce the quality of your life.

Fortunately, an ENT care Singapore specialist can help treat your condition and keep it from getting worse. He or she will diagnose your health issue and provide the appropriate treatment as not everyone has the same set of symptoms.

Today, know the most common conditions that an ENT care Singapore specialist focuses on:

Ear Disorders

Ear infection. An ear infection occurs when your Eustachian tube gets swollen or blocked due to bacterial or viral infection, such as allergies, colds, excess mucus, and sinus infections. Its symptoms are hearing loss, increased fussiness, mild pain or discomfort, and pressure inside the ear.

Both children and adults can experience an ear infection, but the most common type of infection usually affects infants and toddlers.

Hearing loss. Hearing loss can be temporary or permanent. It can also be present at birth or occur after birth. There are three main types of hearing loss, namely conductive, sensorineural, and mixed.

Conductive hearing loss is a disorder that involves the outer or middle ear. It becomes damaged; thus, the sound waves do not reach the inner ear.  On the other hand, sensorineural hearing loss is a loss of function in your inner ear and can occur in one ear or both ears. This type of hearing loss is more prevalent in adults as caused by aging. And last, mixed hearing loss is a combination of the two.

Nasal Problems

Sinusitis. Sinusitis happens when your sinuses are blocked and filled with fluid and germs. It is typically caused by allergic rhinitis, a common cold, and a deviated septum.

Depending on its type and severity, sinusitis can last less than 12 weeks (acute). But if it’s chronic, its symptoms, such as nasal inflammation and a reduced sense of smell and taste, can last longer than 12 weeks. And if it’s recurrent, the infection can come back again and again.

Nosebleed. A nosebleed is bleeding from tissues inside your nose. While it is not a serious problem, it is common in children and must be treated immediately. It occurs when you blow your nose too hard or an object gets stuck inside the nose.

However, you should call an ENT group in Singapore if the nosebleed does not stop or there is a large amount of blood.

Throat Disorders

Tonsillitis. Tonsillitis is the inflammation of the tonsils. It is caused by bacterial and viral infections. Other factors that increase the risk of getting tonsillitis include age and germ exposure.

The common signs and symptoms of tonsillitis are bad breath, ear pain, headache, fever, loss of appetite, neck pain, painful swallowing, sore throat, swollen tonsils, and swollen glands in your neck. If you experience any of these symptoms, especially those that occur in your head and neck, you might want to consult a head and neck doctor.

Sleep Apnea. Sleep apnea is the obstruction of the airway, which results in your inability to breathe in enough oxygen when sleeping. Also known as obstructive sleep apnea, it occurs when your throat muscles relax.

An ENT care Singapore specialist will examine your airways, nasal passages, and sinuses. Once the source of the obstruction is determined, he or she will remove it for better and proper breathing.
