You’re looking for an easy Himachal trek? You’ve heard about Beas Kund Trek? Well, if not, then continue to read this post. First, however, tell me what is your preferred way of exploring a place? Drive through, talk to local people, experience their culture, or walk along the banks of the river to find its source?

Well, during my recent Himalayan visit I made the last one. My search took me to the Beas, the Beas Kund and the glacier springs. We have been a three-person group, a mix of beginners and professionals. There’s my experience in Himachal Pradesh and the detailed guide to plan your trip to Beas Kund.

About Beas River

Beas is one of Himalayan’s best-known rivers. It probably flows through numerous picturesque sites, some of which have become tourist destinations like Manali.

If you already completed the Beas Kund Trek, you can also check out our article on the list of all beginners or easy hikes in Himachal Pradesh.

It is thought that the Rishi Ved Vyas named this river. It passes by Himachal Pradesh and Punjab before it merges with Harike on the Sutlej river (Punjab). During its process, Beas takes water from several Himalayan tributaries and develops a massive drainage basin with a length of 20,303 square kilometers and 470 kilometers.

Location

It feeds a number of towns and cities close to it. Some believe that the Beas crossing was the biggest obstacle to the invasion of India by Alexander. It is fascinating to reach the source of such a major river.

It’s dreamy countryside which makes the entire trek so tenting. The journey to Beas Kund spreads over vast and beautiful wildernesses full of different wild plants and flowers. You will only see spectacular flora within a few kilometers from rare medicinal herbs to exotic mushrooms if you keep an eye watching you.

The panoramic view of the Pir Panjal area is one of the easy/short treks around Manali.

This is a first-class trek that takes you closer to glaciers, glacial lakes, and high peaks.

It’s enthralling to trace a river to its source as it makes you stroll through unusual countryside.

Best time to visit Beas Kund

August and early September should be avoided when heavy monsoons scourge these Himalayan parts.

Mid-September to end of October, this course is chilly but still a decent time before winter begins. Pro trekkers also try this in winter, when a couple of feet of snow cover the whole area. However, this is not recommended for beginners as obstacles become difficult during this time period.

Trek Duration

It is a two to three days walk and is comfortable for a long weekend. In a single day, some wanderers do it (from Dhundi to Dhundi). It depends entirely on how much you choose to spend a day and if you want to go slowly while you have fun in the surroundings. If you are a good walker, time is a constraint and can be done in one day.

Reach Base of Trek

Manali is this trek’s base destination. It has good road and air connections with the majority of major cities. If you’re from Delhi, overnight buses travel from 6:30 am to 9 am to Manali regularly in the early morning, after almost 13 hours of driving.

The city hosts several hikers and visitors planning to explore the surrounding mountains. After an overnight road trip from Delhi, we arrived in Manali and went straight to Solang for a rest day.

Manali

In order to visit Manali, I recommend visiting the towns of Shang and Burwa in addition to the famous tourist attractions. It is located a couple of kilometers across Old Manali and it is a delight. The fields around the rustic stone buildings are laced by Apple and Walnut orchards.

Solang

The height of Solang is 8.400 feet and 13 kilometers above Manaly, the Kullu valley’s crown. It is famous for snow, paragliding, and the Solang Gondola Ride. Beas River flows through and you can enjoy some nice spots along the river.

The night before and after the Solang Trek, we went on to Delhi later. If you want to know more about mountain sport and the exploration of Solang,
