TRIER. After the coronavirus infections in Trier and the surrounding area rose rapidly in recent days, the city of Trier was forced to adopt new measures to contain the pandemic. Unfortunately, these measures also affect the gladiators’ home games in the Trier arena.

For the time being, the gladiators’ home games in the BAMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga will take place in front of empty stands. This also applies to the first home game of the new season against TEAM EHINGEN / URSPRING on November 1st. However, the team of gladiators is exempt from the ban on contact in sport. As a professional sports team, the gladiators can continue to train with full body contact. The already applicable hygiene guidelines will of course continue to be strictly observed.

It is not yet clear when the home games in the Trier Arena will have to take place without spectators. “It’s a shame that our fans can’t attend home games in the arena for the time being. This news is also disappointing for the entire team, which was really looking forward to the home games in front of our fans. The current situation cannot be planned at the moment. We can only react to current events at short notice. Of course, we fully understand the regulations of the city of Trier, health and safety come first. We, as a professional sports club, have a role model to play here. Nevertheless, from a sporting and economic point of view, ghost games are a difficult task that must now be mastered together, ”says managing director Andre Ewertz.

Managing director Achim Schmitz says about the new measures to combat corona: “Ghost games can only be a short-term solution. This exacerbates the already difficult economic situation due to the pandemic. Here solutions must be found in the short term together with everyone involved if professional basketball is to have a future in the region. “

Of course, the home game against TEAM EHINGEN / URSPRING will still be broadcast live and free of charge on www.sportdeutschland.tv. This of course also applies to tomorrow’s away game in Quakenbrück (7:30 p.m.), where the gladiators, also without spectators, will meet the Artland Dragons and play their first game in the new season of the BARMER 2. Basketball Bundesliga. All new information about the home games in the Arena Trier and all further developments will be communicated at short notice via all channels of the Gladiators Trier.
