Out of the four seasons, only 7% of people rank winter as their favorite. Love it or hate it, another winter season is quickly approaching. You probably had your heating and cooling system checked last spring, but what about your furnace? Do you know if it’s time for a furnace repair or furnace replacement? Here are five sure signs you need to consider buying a new furnace before winter sets in.

1. The “Start and Stop” Cycle

When your furnace, is in good working order, it should have no trouble completing a full heating cycle. This keeps your home at a comfortable temperature at any time of the day or night.

When this cycle keeps getting disrupted, it’s a sign of an underlying issue. The heating sensor might need changing or the fan motor might be dying. Worst case scenario, the whole unit needs to be replaced.

2. Cold Air or Cold Spots in the House

Your furnaces has one goal (and one goal only) — to heat your home. If you can feel cool air blowing through vents when you crank up the thermostat, something is not functioning properly. The same goes for uneven heating that creates “cold spots” in certain rooms of your house.

A furnaces, that blows cold air instead of hot air is definitely on its last leg. This is a sure sign it’s time to get a quote for financing on new furnaces.

3. Shake, Rattle, and Roll

No, we’re not talking about the classic rock song. We’re talking about anything other than the quiet hum you normally hear when your furnace is working normally.

Over time, the mechanical elements of your furnace can loosen or warp. The result is strange banging, popping, or squealing sounds when your heat kicks on. You’ll need someone from a furnace company to come out and inspect it to identify the source of the unusual sounds.

4. Your Furnace Could Be a College Student

Like everything else in your home, your furnace will eventually reach the end of its life cycle. For most units, this is anywhere between 15-30 years.

Do you know how old your furnace is? Is it the same one that’s been there since you bought the house a decade ago? If so, it might simply be nearing its expiration date.

5. Frequent Furnace Service or Repair

As a homeowner, it’s a good habit to have your furnaces serviced every autumn before the coldest weather arrives.

However, does it seem like you have your local furnaces company on speed dial? Do you constantly need servicing or repair work to your current unit? If so, it might be time to accept the inevitable and order a new furnace.

Is It Time for a New Furnace in Your Home?

So, what do you think? Could you tick off one or more of the signs listed above?

If so, don’t wait for the first cold front to arrive. Call furnaces company in your area and discuss the possibility of a new furnace today!
